Guide for parents Who are Pipe3? We are a group of volunteer Computer Scientists who run a free public Minecraft server and public gaming Forum on a voluntary basis. We have no affiliation with Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, but simply run their server software for the benefit of the general public. Our aim is to create a safe and fun environment for people of all backgrounds to come together to play and talk about online games. Who are our target audience? Our community is aimed at anyone with an interest in technology or games aged 13 and older. What is Minecraft? Minecraft is a sandbox-building independent video game originally by Swedish creator Markus "Notch" Persson and now by his company, Mojang. The game has over 6 million registered users, and can be played either in a single player environment, or on-line with other gamers with a choice of thousands of servers. Our community is mainly focused around the Minecraft game. What is DayZ (Arma II)? DayZ is a zombie apocalypse survival modification for a war-themed PC game called Arma II: Operation Arrowhead. We provide a server and supporting Forum for this modification, but are in no other way affiliated. We do not provide access to the game, this must actually be purchased from a retail store prior to playing. This game is rated ESRB M and Pegi 18+ so is not intended for a younger audience. It is the responsibility of the merchant from which the game was purchased and card holder to undertake any age verification in-line with local laws and recommendations. Content on our Forums related to this game is still moderated in-line with our Code of Conduct. What protections are in place on our server? We have a Code of Conduct, available to view from the links on the top of the page, which is enforced strictly by our team of moderators. Chat messages are screened both by automatic filters and staff for anything which violates our Code of Conduct, including but not limited to obscene language or topics, any form of personal information and harassing or bullying comments. Players who violate our Code of Conduct are blocked from connecting to our server. Forum posts can be reported by the community if they do not fit in with our Code of Conduct. These are passed to a moderator and action will be taken if deemed necessary. Any data collected by Pipe3 are processed and held in accordance with current UK and European data protection legislation. Top tips for playing on-line Know what your children are doing on-line and who they're talking to. Get them into good safe surfing habits. Put your computer in a family room and make it a family activity. Help your children understand never to give out any personal information to on-line friends. This includes their e-mail address, pictures, instant messaging ID, telephone number, etc. Help your children to know that people may lie online, and as such it is better to keep on-line friends on-line. They should never meet a stranger without the presence of an adult they trust. Always let a child know that they can come to you if they ever feel uncomfortable on-line. Can I close my child's Pipe3 account? Please open a support ticket by following the instructions in the next section specifying which services you would like to be suspended (e.g. Minecraft, Forums, Chat). You must open the ticket from the same computer as used to log in to the respective services and include a valid contact e-mail address. Within the ticket, please also include any relevant usernames and e-mail addresses associated with your child's account(s). If your request is approved, access to our services from the IP address allocated to you by your service provider will be suspended. You can subsequently re-instate a suspended account by re-opening the ticket. Please note: Some service providers change the IP address allocated to you on a regular basis. If this is the case, it may not be possible for us to permanently suspend access. In these circumstances, you may wish to contact your Internet Service Provider and request the allocation of a "Static IP address". There may be a charge levied by your service provider to sanction this type of request. As an alternative, your service provider may have a parental controls solution which allows you to restrict access to pipe3.net. How can I contact Pipe3? You can open a support ticket from the "Support" link at the top of the page. Pipe3 will usually not revoke a ban issued against an account on our server unless this has been issued in error. Please be aware that there are thousands of other servers available on-line with which friends can play together, and the ban is from our specific server only. We take safety on-line extremely seriously, and it is our number one priority. Our strict Code of Conduct is to ensure absolute safety on our network and a positive environment for our users, however reasonable consideration will still be given to your request.
